Hello, kind soul! Here at Against All Oddz Animal Alliance INC., we are looking for folks who have a passion to bring order and charm to their environment and don't mind getting a little bit of dog-fur on their clothes (or potentially some slobbery kisses). Located in rural Darien Center, only minutes from Darien Lake Amusement Park, we are a mixed rescue/sanctuary for dogs caught up in the legal system with nowhere to go. We have 47-acres of pristine rolling pastures, lush forests, and even a federally-protected wetlands on the edge of our property!

Each of our 12 dogs either lives in their own cabin (with A/Cs, heaters, electric, all the amenities to make them comfortable) with the ability to enter and exit their own personal fenced-in run whenever they please! Our more social dogs live in our "Hotel" facility that is the central hub for most supplies and where volunteers hang out the most. Each of these dogs have their own private kennel space, and connected runs that allow them to run and play with each other as much as they want! It's quite adorable to watch. 

That being said, it takes a lot of hands to keep all 6 cabins and Hotel in tip-top shape (especially in the dreaded mud season that is spring) to ensure our furry residents stay healthy and bright, especially the ones who will be living here their entire lives. While we ask all volunteers to participate in housekeeping, we understand there are people out there who specifically do not want to handle the dogs, but still want to help out how they can. They are always our biggest heroes because of the harmony they bring to our rescue through cleaning and organizing! It can be very busy here, so with a little bit of your TLC, you can help enrich not just a dog's quality of life here, but also the other staff and volunteers running around nonstop!

Canopy of Neighbors is looking for Board members to help us serve the elder community in Buffalo.

Canopy of Neighbors is a non-profit organization creating new pathways to aging well and aging independently in community. Part of the national "village" movement, Canopy services a socioeconomically and culturally diverse population of seniors who need non-medical and non-social service supports to remain in their homes. Our volunteers drive seniors to crucial medical and social appointments, engage in friendly visits, volunteer help and socialization. We also run a robust programming schedule, which includes transportation. Our efforts are crucial to mitigating the negative effects of social isolation and allows seniors to remain in their communities and maintain positive mental and physical health outcomes.

Board members meet 5-6X/year for one-hour meetings, usually Tuesdays from 5-6pm. We are especially in need of volunteers with Non-Profit Governance and Finance experience, but all contributions of time, talent and treasure are welcome! Volunteers are needed to assist with FeedMore WNY's Angel Card program! Throughout the year we often distribute greeting cards, that community members have made and donated, to our home delivered meal clients. It is a way to lift our clients' spirits and put a smile on their face! This project can be done remotely, and cards can be handmade, created on a computer or even store bought and  then decorated further. We just require that none of the cards are dated, that they do not have any offensive language on them and that they are not addressed to anyone specific.  Cards can be for any holiday or general purpose, but we do ask that cards are not specific to any particular religious holiday (i.e. get well soon cards, birthday cards, cards saying: happy fall, or happy holidays, etc.). If providing envelopes with your cards please do not seal them. 

Once completed, cards can either be dropped off (between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) at 100 James E Casey Drive Buffalo 14206, or mailed.  Cards can also be dropped off on Saturdays (between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.) at 91 Holt Street, Buffalo 14206.

Volunteers are needed to help make companion calls to our homebound neighbors! Companion Calls are opportunities to check in with FeedMore WNY's home-delivered meal clients to ensure they are staying well, and to provide them with a friendly conversation. Many of FeedMore WNY's clients live on their own and are fairly isolated, and these phone calls help to combat that isolation and provide our homebound neighbors with some socialization. 

Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate in this opportunity, and will be required to come into the Holt Street office to make these phone calls. Training will be provided onsite at the beginning of the shift. All volunteer rules and expectations can be accessed here!

Residential Coordinators (RC) are the staff that work to meet the day to day needs of the residents of both the Alfiero Family Center and Cornerstone Manor, the Women and Children’s Shelter.  As a lead volunteer in this position, you will serve shoulder to shoulder with staff, providing vital support to staff while together, meeting daily resident needs. You may be preparing a room for a new resident, doing a bit of Covid cleaning, assisting with laundry and other, day to day operations. This service role will give you a greater understanding of and participation in the services provided to the women and children of Cornerstone Manor.  Note: Lead Volunteers receive extra training, as a volunteer in this role you do not need a staff person, present during your time of service. The Thrift Store Volunteer Clothing Team Member’s role is to sort, hang and price clothing and linens for placement on the sales floor. Along with straightening clothing racks to keep the store looking pristine and inviting to our community shoppers. As a volunteer in this position you will sort, categorize all donations with a focus on houseware donations for preparation for the sales floor. In this role you represent the Buffalo City Mission as you engage donors in friendly conversation while receiving and sharing appreciation their donation. Donations are vital to the continued work of the Buffalo City Mission for many reasons. This position may seem small, but a friendly smile and kind words goes a long way to build lasting relationships with our caring and supportive donor community. Chapel Worship Team

Compass House is seeking teams of 5+ volunteers to assist in setting up homes for our Rapid Re-Housing clients. Your team will be tasked with collecting new and gently used items to fill an apartment with, assisting Compass House staff to set up the housing, and creating a warm, welcoming environment for our clients to call home.

Compass House is looking for volunteers to assist with sorting and organizing our donations. We receive multiple donation every week and they continue to grow. We only have so much space here and only so many clients to give supplies to. We are overflowing in all areas of the Resource Center with donations. If you or anyone you know would like to help us sort through them, we would greatly appreciate it. 

We provide online training that can be complete at your convenience and our paperwork can be completed electronically.  

On your own schedule, call or visit a senior (in your neighborhood) for 1-2 hours per month for a friendly check-in. Notice additional needs of the senior? Just let us know. We want our volunteers to focus on the friendship because social isolation is deadly for our seniors and they have so much to offer in life wisdom and experience. 

Buffalo State faculty and staff are invited to join our FeedMore Meal Delivery Team! Two Buffalo State faculty/staff volunteers deliver meals in the Blackrock neighborhood of Buffalo on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Delivery takes approximately one hour beginning at 11:00am. 

The Meal Delivery Team is a great way to meet others from across campus and utilize your lunch hour to assist our neighbors.

We are looking for passionate volunteers to SHINE THEIR LIGHT as part of the planning committee for The Longest Day, our annual "do-it-yourself" fundraising program!

The ambassador’s role for TLD includes all or some of the following: attending monthly committee meetings, making phone calls to participants, writing thank you cards, reaching out to potential TLD participants, spreading awareness of the Alzheimer’s Association and TLD, fundraising etc. Your Alzheimer's Association staff partner supports you throughout the program and is very flexible and happy to tailor your volunteer experience around your interests and schedule. We offer both virtual and in-person opportunities.

Ideal volunteers would have some of these traits: Enjoying connecting with people, enthusiasm, are passionate about ending Alzheimer's, comfortable talking on the phone, and a willingness to participate in events.

Monthly commitment: Approximately 2-3 hours per month. This will vary depending on the month, and as mentioned above, our staff partner is very flexible with what works for you.

This committee's role is to assist in the creation of professional education workshops, talks and webinars. Audiences for professional education programs include nephrology specialists, primary care providers, dialysis providers, social workers, dietitians and others working with kidney patients.

We are seeking committee members with experience in any of the above fields, or experience in planning educational programs.

Until further notice, all committee meetings are being held remotely by video conference or phone conference. Meetings are generally held on weeknight evenings or at another time convenient for the most members of a specific committee.

The committee's role will include:

Food pickup needed on Mondays with a pickup truck (no cap) to help people in Williamsville and Clarence who are hungry.  We need you for about an hour. You could even do this before you go to work.  Every Mondays at 5:45am. The pickup is 1/2 mile from the food pantry. The weeks you are going on vacation or out of town we would need you to let us know in advance.  

A pallet would be loaded into your truck by the forklift operator and you would load any produce or dairy in your pickup and bring it back to the pantry to unload.  

Social Media Volunteer/Intern, Lockport,NY.  The Morlock Foundation is looking for a 4+hr/week Social Marketing Volunteer/Intern and Online Mobilizer. (REMOTE POSITION)

Must be familiar with Web 2.0 programs like facebook, twitter, pinterest, instagram and more.

The main directive for the Office Volunteer is to greet visitors at our front desk and field incoming phone calls. The Development & Event Planning committee will have direct responsibility over International Child Advancement's (ICA) event planning and development activities.

The Social Innovation committee (non-board) will provide virtual oversight to all educational and vocational training related activities that take place at GUAOA Orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Committee members will manage tasks related to educational sponsorship, child pairing for the organization, and the growth of our vocational training programs.

Responsibilities: 

Education:

Develop an education program strategy that will detail a more streamlined strategy from a data, communications (with sponsors) and pairing perspective (ensuring at least 70 orphans are paired with a sponsor for 2023-2024 school year)

- Grades Data: Document each child’s grade per trimester - track graduation and failure rates

- Communication with Sponsors: Email sponsors the report cards every trimester/year-end

- Pairings: Identify and conduct outreach to potential educational sponsors ahead of the new school year

Help the museum with upkeep and maintenance activities, including carpentry and painting. Upkeep includes our amusement rides, our histroic building, and exhibits. Mondays and Fridays 9AM-2PM.

Looking for a knowledgeable volunteer for the museum collections. Should have a background in archival and library principles, but will train as required. This individual will be cataloging donations into the collection, assisting with the arrangement and descriptions of collections, while also helping with YouTube videos as necessary.

Media of the collections includes both 2D and 3D artifacts. This person would be interested in following the mission of the Buffalo Naval Park, familiar with MS Office products, and be able to tolerate moderate physical demands including lifting and shifting boxes, climbing up and down stairs\ladders with tight spaces and be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Greeting guest as they enter and making them feel welcome, maintaining the products neatly and organized. Help with the sale of products and admission tickets. Assist with ticketing items and stocking. Seasonal position – April 1 – mid-November. Hours of operation 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.  We are flexible based on your availability.

The Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park is seeking volunteers to assist with events. There are various opportunities available depending on availability and level of interest. Volunteers on the events committee can take a leadership role in planning and executing one or more event(s) that may include attending planning meetings, reaching out to potential partners, and assisting with aspects of the event from inception to execution. There are also opportunities for volunteers to assist on the day(s) of the event that can include greeting visitors, registration, and facilitating activities.

Looking for volunteers to assist with our Overnight Encampment program.  The Buffalo Naval Park hosts campers on weekends as they spend the night aboard the USS Little Rock.  The campers are typically made up of scouts.  Our Overnight Encampment allows the camper to experience life aboard a Navy vessel.  Volunteers would assist with serving dinner/breakfast, leading campers to programming, assisting in an educational activity, and light maintenance and cleaning duties.  The program runs 4:00 pm Saturday through 10:00 am Sunday with dates throughout the Spring and Fall.  You will also have the option to spend the night onboard the USS Little Rock. 

A volunteer Pilates/yoga instructors are needed to teach yoga and/or Pilates. This volunteer would help clients use movement and fitness to alleviate stress, negative body issues and trauma. This opportunity would be one to two times per week between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

We are also looking for a volunteer life/motivational coach to work with our clients during the week from 9-12 p.m.

All volunteers must complete an application BEFORE being added to the volunteer schedule. PLEASE do not just show up without speaking to our Volunteer Coordinator. We want to ensure everyone has a GREAT volunteer experience, and need to prepare for your arrival.

Residents at Vive go through long, difficult journeys to finally end up claiming asylum in Buffalo. When they arrive they need to learn a new language, how to make it around a new city, take care of their physical and mental health, enroll kids in school, and lots of other complicated things. It's hard enough learning these things on your own when you a move to a new place. Imagine doing it in a new country while you are still learning the language!

Duties:

Accompaniment Volunteers will meet residents at the shelter and walk or ride the bus with them as they make their way to locations across Buffalo and then back to Vive. On Wednesdays we have a weekly Vive clinic that many residents attend. It is very busy and we cannot give everyone the individual attention they may need so Accompaniment Volunteers could stay with people as they wait. You can be that calming steady person that stands with them as they figure out we are truly the City of Good Neighbors!

Who you'll work with:

Volunteers work with Social Work and Family Program staff along with residents staying at Vive.

People with the following skills/experience would be great here:

No need for previous experience in social work or the medical field. Interest in sharing cultures with people different from you. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is great but not required at all.

VIVE Kitchen Volunteer

VIVE has a significant need for volunteers to assist in meal prep and service in our kitchen at Vive Shelter for Lunch and Dinner.

Duties:

Food is healing! Residents at Vive go through long, difficult journeys to finally end up claiming asylum in Buffalo. When they arrive they need a moment to recharge, find safety, while being both figuratively & literally fed. Our kitchen volunteers ensure we share culturally relevant nourishment with the families staying at the shelter. Volunteers work with a resident-led team who help guide hospitality for their peers. Duties include working with a team of multi-lingual, multi-national residents to help prepare and serve meals.

Who you'll work with:

Vive's Kitchen Managers and Hospitality Team along with residents staying at Vive.

Minimum time commitment:

Once a week on an ongoing basis is ideal. 1-2 times a month works too! We serve 3 meals a day every day 365 days a year so there's always help to give.

Requirements (other than COVID vaccination):

Comfortable taking direction from the kitchen managers for safe meal prep. Masks worn at all times inside facility. Volunteers must be over the age of 18.

People with the following skills/experience would be great here:

Passionate about cooking. No need for previous experience cooking for large groups. Interest in sharing cultures with people different from you. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is great but not required.

Many have silently gone through life without being able to read and write above a basic level, impacting their ability to find a good job, get promoted, or help their children with schoolwork. Others are learning English as a second language, finding new hope as new citizens in the U.S.

Our volunteer tutors work with adult students in person for two hours, one day a week. No teaching experience required! All you need is the desire to learn and work with an adult learning. Volunteers participate in training that is a mix of in-person sessions and an online workshop.

Tutors are matched with students based on their schedule availability and meet at any public place, most usually a library, that works for both the tutor and the student.

There are several micro grants that would are in need of applying for. Gaining funding will make sure that we can increase the amount of black and brown youth that can take part in our coding certification after school club and provide the resources that our students need to succeed. We have a list of grants that we would like to apply for and would love someone who has a passion for youth to assist us in this next funding journey.

Spring Sweep: This is for volunteers who would like to join an organized cleanup lead by Waterkeeper Site Captains on April 22rd from 10AM-12PM. Volunteers can choose from a list of locations across Western New York. Volunteers must register on our website to choose a location to join. Solo Sweep: This is for volunteers who want to cleanup on their own or with a small group of friends or family. Volunteers can cleanup where they want, with their own supplies, when it works for their schedule. Report your efforts by collecting data on the trash you cleanup! Collecting data helps us track the plastic pollution in Western New York and advocate for solutions by using the Clean Swell Application.

Non-Profit Board Member - Ten Thousand Villages Buffalo, a fair trade non-profit retailer is recruiting new board members as our organization begins its 40th year in WNY. Board members attend monthly meetings and work on various projects in support of the organization and the fair trade mission. Some key areas are fundraising, marketing, strategy, and finance. This is an exciting opportunity as we plan on growing our impact on the fair trade mission and revamping our retail store’s operations.

Every Wednesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. volunteers are needed to assist children with music and arts. We are currently looking for a volunteer piano teacher to join us for this program!

Every Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. volunteers are needed to help bag groceries, sort and organize donations, and help make follow up calls to clients.

We need help with preparing our meals.  You would be assisting our cook.  Duties would be, but not limited to chopping vegetables, preparing soups, packaging the meals, etc.

We need drivers Monday through Friday. You can choose any day or multiple days.  It takes about an hour from the time you pick up the meals deliver them and return to drop off the delivery bags. We also need on-call volunteers who can fill in when one of our drivers cannot make it. 

We need volunteers to help deliver meals Monday-Friday. It only takes about 1 hour and you can choose how what day or days you are available.

We also need kitchen helpers.  This would be from 8-11am. 

St. Stephens Bethlehem is looking for volunteers to work in our food pantry on Tuesdays. The pantry is open from 10am-7pm and various shifts are available. Please contact us to help our neighbors in need experiencing food insecurity.

Event planning committee volunteers are important to the Kidney Foundation. Our committee members bring up new ideas, help us to think through logistics, and reach out to other organizations and people.

You don't need special qualifications or connections to join an event committee. The most important thing is that you want to help.

Until further notice, all committee meetings are being held remotely by video conference or phone conference. Meetings are generally held on weeknight evenings or at another time convenient for the most members of a specific committee.
