Volunteer: Concordia Foundation Inc. & Historic Concordia Cemetery in Buffalo are looking to mentor 1-3 interns to help us with promotion and marketing this year.

Formed in 1859, Concordia Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Western New York and one of only 4 that still remain in the City of Buffalo. The historic cemetery is listed on both the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places and its buildings are designated Buffalo Landmarks.        

Encompassing 15 acres, the cemetery is the final resting place for thousands of early residents of Buffalo, including over 500 war veterans. There are over 21,000 people of all ethnic backgrounds, cultures and religions reflecting this area's vast diversity at rest here.

 Staffed entirely by volunteers, this historic site was saved from abandonment in 2003.

We are in the process of developing our events for the year and planning a promotional campaign for the historic cemetery. In addition to what will be happening this season at Concordia, we were also invited to serve on a committee reporting to the Erie County Historical Commission and tasked with creating events in honor of the country's semiquincentennial, and so we have created a county-wide project that is currently awaiting approval. Once approved, we will need to begin its promotion.

We would like the intern/s to research and develop stories to be used in social media and on tours, write press releases and promotional materials, help with videos and events and help develop a manual for volunteers joining our team. 

What the interns will get: exposure to a wide range of media, free access to webcasts and workshops to develop PR skills, and networking with other nonprofits, local community leaders, government representatives and media professionals.

The cemetery is closed for the winter so our meetings are currently being held on Zoom.

The Foundation, while independent from Community Services for Every1, has been developed to address the gap in services experienced by agencies serving people with developmental disabilities in New York state.


Since its founding, the Board has made a significant impact on hundreds of individuals supported by the agency and beyond. Over the last ten years alone, they have allocated $132,000 toward Mini-Grants and $75,000 toward capital growth, contributing to new developments. These include the Jefferson Career Exploration Center, the Apartments at the Lyceum—supportive affordable housing and a hub for habilitative and vocational services—and an upcoming project, The Nest, which will serve as both supportive housing and a vocational services hub in Niagara Falls.

3.   Assist with daily recreational programs as needed.

4.   Help maintain an orderly and welcoming place for clients.

5.   Assist with food preparation and service (breakfast, lunch).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.   Excellent verbal communication skills, as well as customer service skills, required.

2.   Must be comfortable working with people who are visually impaired and developmentally disabled.

3.   Must be mature, reliable, courteous, have good judgment and be professional.

4.   The ability to understand and follow instructions/directions is required.

5.   Must be organized and able to work in an environment with priority changes.

6.   Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team.

The Service Collaborative continues its successful initiative in addressing the extreme level of child poverty through the Beds for Buffalo project. The project provides the basic human need of child sized beds for families in need. The Beds for Buffalo project needs your help building 300 handcrafted, twin beds.

Volunteers will participate in the project and assist with the milling, sanding, painting and/or assembly of beds. All volunteers will be trained on these tasks and supervised by volunteer leaders.

The project will take place at The Foundry (298 Northampton St, Buffalo, NY 14208) on dates and times listed below. The Service Collaborative continues its successful initiative in addressing the extreme level of child poverty through the Beds for Buffalo project. The project provides the basic human need of child sized beds for families in need. The Beds for Buffalo project needs your help building 300 handcrafted, twin beds.

The Ambassador will be able to speak comfortably about the important work of Crisis Services as well as empathetically listen to community members share their stories of working with Crisis Services. Our Ambassadors may serve as the face of Crisis Services to the community.


We offer an extensive training program for our Ambassadors to be ready to be in the community and represent Crisis Services to the public. This training includes basics of Crisis Services programs, suicide prevention skills, basics of domestic and sexual violence and mental health awareness. This training will prepare you to speak comfortably about these topics to community members at public events. You will also have the opportunity to shadow the Community Education and Outreach Coordinator at an event to help you learn the skills of setting up our materials and engaging with the public.

This is an excellent opportunity for retirees looking to give back, get more engaged, or share their knowledge with the community. It's also great for students who are considering a career in the medical field or those looking for service-learning hours. We ask that volunteers be willing to commit to six months, with a minimum of 10hrs per month.  

HighPointe on Michigan is a 300-bed facility dedicated to sub-acute rehabilitation and traditional long-term care. It includes a floor for memory care, a physical therapy department, a ventilator unit, and a pediatric unit.
