Volunteer: Compeer Cruiser- Volunteer Driver

Compeer clients need rides to social activities so they can connect, build friendships, and feel part of the community. You’ll pick up Compeer clients at their home, drive them to social activities, join in the fun if you’d like, and make sure they get home safely. Your ride helps clients living with mental health challenges stay connected, build friendships, and feel included.

Volunteers will communicate with a member of the Compeer staff using a secure transportation database tool to fulfill shifts & coordinate efficient pick-up and drop-off routes.

Monthly Milage reimbursement provided to drivers*

Key Responsibilities:

Drive Compeer clients and approved family members to a Compeer sponsored activity.

Optional- Drivers are offered the opportunity to stay at the Compeer activity, participate and build relationships with compeer clients.

Participate in positive interactions with all passengers, including greeting and engaging in conversation throughout sessions, listening non-judgmentally and empathetically.

Provide safe, comfortable, and dignified transportation.

Eligibility Requirements:

Licensed driver with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience.21 years of age or olderDriving record in good standing.Must be punctual and dependable.Ability to demonstrate empathy and effective communication skills.General knowledge of Erie County, including navigating various roads throughout the region.

Screening & Training Requirements:

Compeer Outreach Team members play a crucial role in expanding our reach and impact within communities across Erie County. As an Outreach Team member, you will be the face of Compeer, representing Compeer at a variety of community events such as wellness fairs, community resource fairs, career fairs, and speaking directly with members of the community to encourage them to get involved with our organization. Outreach Team volunteers support Compeer by spreading awareness of our programs and volunteer opportunities, allowing interested individuals to be able to seek a Friend or to be a Friend to an individual navigating mental health challenges. Outreach Team members attend events as needed.

*Time Commitment: The time commitment may vary depending on the number of events and outreach opportunities available. Outreach Team members are expected to be available for a flexible schedule including weekends, and evenings often when events are often held.

Volunteer screening includes an interview, references, background checks (including fingerprints, local police clearance, child abuse registry, and national sex offender registry), and volunteer orientation and training.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age, complete our screening process and onboarding process.
