Compeer Niagara

Who We Are

Compeer Niagara is a non-profit, volunteer-based program that serves adults and children who have a mental health diagnosis and limited social supports. Our goal is to improve their quality of life and self-esteem through social inclusion, friendship and FUN!!!

What We Do

We make life better by having fun!! We match volunteers from the community with participants who have a mental health diagnosis and limited social supports. Volunteers spend 4 hours a month for 1 year having fun with their match! The 4 hours are a combination of in person visits and over the phone, via text, email, etc. We match people based on gender, shared interest, and geographic area. For example.... Volunteer Susan lives in Niagara Falls and loves spending time outdoors. We would match Susan with participant Claire. Claire lives in Niagara Falls and wants to enjoy more time outdoors. Susan and Claire talk on the phone once a week for 20 minutes to see how each others' week went. They text each other once a week just to say, "hey". They get together once a month for two hours to spend time outside, walking, site seeing, bird watching, picnicking, getting coffee, whatever they think is fun! Susan picks Claire up from her house and drives her to where they will be hanging out. 4 hours of making a difference- complete! Or say Claire and Susan are into the movies! Claire and Susan text once a week to say hey, talk on the phone 20 minutes a week to catch up, and then go to lunch and a movie once a month (they use the $2.00 Regal Tickets Compeer Niagara offers) and Boom!! 4 hours is achieved!
